Soul Food description
Soul Food — Description
A survival RPG built around a slow-burn weight-gain mechanic. Lost on a pilgrimage, you awaken among the ruins of a fallen kingdom and must feed on the animated guardians that guard this forsaken place to cultivate your stats and abilities. You may recruit other adventurers and guardians to stand with you, shaping a small but capable party for the journey ahead.
The world unfolds as you roam a desert corridor of ruins, seeking equipment and soul food to sustain your group. Delve deeper to uncover the history of Okarim and the lingering curse that plagues the land. Explore opulent castle walls, an inner oasis, and the mysterious caves that lie beneath, where hidden knowledge and danger intertwine and the fate of the realm hangs in the balance.
Core to the experience is how you grow. The soul food you collect directly shapes your party’s offensive and defensive growth each level. Cultivate strength, learn new abilities, and grow in girth, but beware—grow too fast and the curse will begin to affect your abilities, forcing you to seek remedies or ways to counter the corruption.
Combat is a deck-based system. Each character fights using a deck of actions rather than traditional commands, requiring careful planning and adaptive strategy. Manage stamina across encounters and tailor your approach to the challenges ahead, choosing the right tools and tactics for each fight.
Plan what you bring with you. The game reminds you to “bring the right utensils,” underscoring the strategic flavor of assembling your toolkit—you wouldn’t eat soup with a fork or corn with a knife. This is a fresh take on survival RPG design, inviting you to balance resource management, party growth, and the moral weight of the curse.
Soul Food offers a distinct fusion of exploration, character progression, and deck-driven combat in a world where every choice carries consequence. Will you nurture your party wisely, cure the curse, and uncover the secrets of Okarim, or let the weight of growth swallow your crew?
