Lilac

Lilac is a fantasy visual novel set in a magical school where humans and mages mingle. You follow Emil, a young human who despises mages, and Henri, a self-proclaimed “bonehead” among the mages, as they learn to connect despite deep anxieties and divergent backgrounds. The story is brought to life with meticulous character designs by industry veteran Oyari Ashito and a narrative by Yuka Kono, known for adapting stage plays into visual storytelling.

The world centers on Lilac Academy, a joint magic school founded by Lilac, the Legendary Magus, who dreamed of humans and mages living together in peace and harmony. Graduation carries a generous monetary reward, a practical motive that drives Emil to enroll after receiving an admission letter in a rural eastern village. His past mistreatment at the hands of a mage adds a personal stake to the journey, but family comes before grudges, guiding his decision to study at the academy.

On the road to the academy, Emil encounters Henri, a peer who is as earnest as he is blunt. The two hit it off, only to have Emil’s prejudice collide with the reality that Henri is a mage. When Emil tries to leave, Henri insists on guiding him to the academy and forcibly casts a spell. The spell backfires, sending Emil to an unfamiliar place and launching him into a life-changing, turbulent chapter at Lilac.

Lilac offers two story versions to suit different preferences: the side Witch, with a female main cast, and the side Wizard, with a male main cast. Each version features distinct characters, voices, and even minor details unique to its storyline, while preserving the core premise of friendship blossoming across diverse backgrounds. The artwork, voice acting, and narrative details vary between versions, inviting players to explore alternate routes and relationships.

Beyond its romance and character drama, Lilac emphasizes growth, trust, and collaboration as humans and mages navigate their shared future. Themes of friendship amid anxiety and differing aspirations drive the journey, asking whether differences will lead to conflict or become the foundation of lasting bonds.
