Gambit description

Gambit

Gambit is a chess-based roguelike where you build the ideal piece set by combining different elements to achieve stronger results. In a scenario echoing the historic turn of events after Kasparov’s defeat, you are the last chance against a relentless machine. Through a sequence of unique matches, every battle introduces new rules, threats, and opportunities. Collect upgrades, adapt your style, and survive rules that bend classical chess on every move.

Core idea

Respect basic chess rules while embracing inventive twists. Face the strongest AI in a chain of challenges where your ability to improvise matters as much as your knowledge of openings.

Endless possibilities

Combine unique chess configurations with special kings to unlock abilities and effects. Every three rounds, you encounter an endgame boss that tests your adaptability under pressure.

Bosses and variants

Confront 10+ bosses representing different chess variants, including Atomic, Fog of War, Anti-chess, and others. Each boss reshapes the battlefield and the rules, demanding new strategies.

Progression and customization

Earn currency to buy upgrades: special kings, boosters, pieces, and books. There are 13+ special kings, each changing the game rules with a unique effect. Basic pieces return with new variants and buffs, enabling flexible army building and resilient play.

Cards, etudes, and books

Expand your toolkit with 10+ etude cards that modify pieces or grant positive bonuses, and 10+ books that provide steady passive effects. Craft a deck and a playstyle that supports your plan across runs.

Play flow and AI

When pace is tight, you can enable autobattle and watch the action, but be cautious: if the bot loses, you lose too. The game runs on a fairy Stockfish-inspired AI under the hood, delivering fair yet challenging competition that keeps the chess spirit intact.
