Nightmare World is a 2D action game where you guide a girl through a dangerous dreamscape, collecting emblems to unlock an escape and push farther into the nightmarish realm. A red demon relentlessly pursues you, while other hostile creatures and traps lie in wait. Survive the chase, outsmart obstacles, and gather the emblems to find a way out.

How to play — You control the girl with the directional inputs to move through perilous stages. Use Shift to inspect the environment or strike with a frying pan, and press 0 to access the menu or cancel actions. The Red Oni will track your movements, so quick thinking and precise control are essential to stay ahead.

Emblems and escape — Emblems are the keys to escaping Nightmare World. They carry crests for animals such as Rat, Ox, Tiger, Snake, Rabbit, Dragon, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Bird, Dog, and Boar. Collecting emblems grants progress and unlocks new areas, while some paths are blocked by Obstruction Crystals that require a certain number of emblems to pass.

Difficulty levels — The game offers four modes for different skill levels:

• Easy — HP 3, Red Oni and monsters move slowly. Aimed at players who want a gentler challenge.
• Normal — HP 3, normal enemy speed. Recommended for first-time players.
• Hard — HP 2, numerous obstacle gimmicks appear, demanding tighter control.
• Nightmare — HP 1, many obstacles with darkness, a hidden map, and concealed emblem locations. Animal-themed hindrance crystals block key paths, forcing backtracking and careful memorization.

Change difficulty on the fly — If you find a mode too hard or too easy, you can switch the difficulty at any time by examining the Light Blue Crystal found early in each stage. Adapt as you play.

Field elements — Several tools and hazards shape each run:

• Warning Mark — reveals the direction the Red Oni is approaching from; use it to flee wisely.
• Red Oni — the pursuing demon; being caught means defeat, so stay ahead.
• Emblems — collectible keys to escape, with animal crests listed above.
• Obstruction Crystals (Number-Based) — block your path until you meet the required emblem count; the Animal Edition is unique to Nightmare and requires animal emblems.
• Transparency Potion — temporary invisibility to confuse pursuers.
• Speed Potion — temporary speed boost to outrun danger.
• Jump Pad — grants a large leap to reach new areas or evade the Oni.
• Bear Trap (Nightmare) — immobilizes you briefly; stepping on it while chased allows the Oni to catch up.

Setting and tech — Nightmare World is developed using Unity and RPG Maker Unite, delivering compact, tense 2D action with stylized visuals and challenging stage design. The game emphasizes strategic positioning, memory, and precise timing to survive the nightmare and collect all emblems.
