Cars on Mars — description

Cars on Mars is a utopian arcade racer where you drive across the red planet and through a series of exotic, portal-connected worlds. Each scene blends different visual styles as you race, from ink sketches to pencil drawings and voxel-like vistas. The whole experience is built from pure math: every track, every vehicle, and every visual transition is procedurally generated, delivering a sense of endless terrain while the game itself stays compact—under 10 MB on disk.

The game invites you to explore a universe of styles and layouts that adapt as you race. Portals link radically different visuals and shapes, so no two races feel the same even when you loop through familiar routes. This design keeps the gameplay fast, varied, and surprising, while the underlying generation keeps complexity in check.

There are three core game modes designed for competition and variety:

  • Death Match: race to eliminate your opponents using a roof-mounted gun and reach a predefined frag target first.
  • Race: navigate a round course through a sequence of gates; win by finishing the required number of rounds (1–10).
  • Capture the Flag: seize the flag by passing through a special effect portal; every shot can alter an opponent’s effect, so you must reach the flag without being rendered unfit by enemy fire.

Online multiplayer is supported for up to 10 players, with optional local split-screen play. In every mode, you’ll compete against others in the same dynamic playground while experiencing distinct visual eras that shift as you race.

Visual styles available at runtime include Ink Sketch, Voxel graphics, Pencil Drawings, and Ballpoint Drawings, each transforming the scene without changing the core racing rules. The mechanics reward quick reflexes, smart use of portals, and timing—knowing when to shoot, when to dodge, and when to push through an effect change to gain the edge.

Note: the game uses strong contrasts and fast brightness changes, which may not suit everyone with photosensitivity or related conditions.
