Drink description

Drink

Drink is a short, top-down 2D narrative game about alcohol dependence, routine, and the moment the excuses stop working. You play as a man who once had something to lose. The village moves on without you. You are not the centre of it.

Across a single day, you move between three spaces in a connected rural Australian town: The Pub, The Hotel Cocktail Bar, and The Cabaret. Each space reflects a different story you tell yourself, a facet of the shape your drinking takes as your choices ripple through the day.

Gameplay is a focused, immersive experience. The world is a reactive top-down pixel art landscape that tightens around you as you navigate habit and consequence. Drinking restores you in the moment, steadies your hands, and makes conversations easier — but it also makes everything else worse. There are no branching paths. There is no redemption arc. There is only the morning after.

Three themed dungeons

  • Habit: the pull to repeat familiar routines even when they hurt.
  • Rationalisation: the stories we tell to justify the next drink.
  • Escapism: the attempts to hide from pain, shame, or loneliness.

A restrained narrative is told through implication and sparse dialogue, guiding you toward a fixed ending centered on accountability, not recovery. The game makes its point through atmosphere, choice, and the weight of the morning after rather than explicit instruction.

Experience and structure

  • Focused, single-sitting experience: approximately 30–60 minutes.
  • Reactive top-down pixel art world that responds to your actions and hesitations.
  • Three spaces, connected like a town, forming a compact cycle of consequence.
  • Content that invites reflection on dependence, routine, and self-deception without offering a cure.

Content note: Drink explores themes of alcohol dependence, shame, and emotional avoidance. It is not a recovery simulator. The subject matter may be confronting for some players.
