rook description

rook

rook is a chess roguelike where captures score points, pieces gain permanent upgrades, and strategic placement of stickers and spare tiles drives cascading, ever-growing combos. Each move can trigger a chain reaction: base material from captured pieces, bonuses from stickers on the board, and passive effects from spare tiles all stack and cascade into the thousands.

Between rounds you shop for power in the workshop. Permanent options matter a lot:

  • Stickers attach to board tiles and unlock additive bonuses, multipliers, and conditional effects as pieces land where they’re placed.
  • Spare tiles grant passive abilities that fire during scoring. They stack up to 5 and fire in a fixed order, so sequencing matters and combos can scale dramatically.
  • Piece mutations alter your army forever. Gilded pieces add material, Prismatic pieces add multipliers, and Inverted pieces boost your final score by 1.5x—choose wisely, as you cannot undo mutations.
  • Booster packs offer randomized bundles of stickers, tiles, or pieces with varying rarities. They’re high risk, high reward, and can fill gaps in your build—or tilt it off the rails.

The game is built around a fixed twelve-round ladder with four brackets, and a sandbox you can unlock called The Gauntlet. Beat all twelve rounds to unlock The Gauntlet, an endless mode where score targets scale by 15% each round forever. That is where optimized builds push their limits—and where a well-seeded plan meets a ruthless ramp.

The core philosophy is simple to state and hard to master: sticker placement matters, spare tile order matters, and the decision to upgrade a queen now versus saving for a booster pack later can flip the score in a single run. You learn by failing and returning with a better plan.

Features that truly matter include unique stickers with conditional triggers and synergies, spare tiles that combo with each other, and piece variants that change your approach. You’ll encounter minigame triggering tiles (dice, slots, puzzles), full controller support, and a design that shuns timers, grinding, and gacha currencies.

The board is waiting. Craft your cascade. Dominate the rounds. The Gauntlet awaits the bold.
