RouteWhom/ルートフーム description

RouteWhom/ルートフーム

RouteWhom is a first-person liminal space psychological horror walking simulator depicted through the distinctive look of early 2000s digital cameras. Set in deserted, modern Japanese-style environments, the game blends nostalgia with an undercurrent of dread as you navigate a world that feels both familiar and eerily wrong.

Currently in development, please stay tuned for the upcoming demo release.

Story and Objective

You awaken in an unfamiliar, completely empty space that resembles an extension of everyday life yet carries a palpable wrongness. As you move through this unpopulated void, a mysterious girl appears, dressed in a maid-style Santa outfit. She becomes your guide, and moments together can feel like a bizarre, unsettling “date.” Your objective is to navigate and escape this strange environment, gradually uncovering truths as you follow her through increasingly uncanny corridors and spaces.

Gameplay

The core mechanic is a 3D walking simulator centered on environmental exploration. Move through photorealistic, authentic modern Japanese buildings to uncover the path forward. Companionship matters: the girl is your sole guide in this sterile world, and her presence, paired with the emptiness around you, creates a disturbing dynamic that may challenge your trust. There are no flashy action sequences; progress hinges on enduring psychological dread and anxiety. By listening to the girl’s words and gradually facing unfolding truths, you must rely on careful observation to keep moving forward.

Key Features

  • Y2K Digital Camera Aesthetics: A nostalgic visual blend that mimics the resolution, color grading, and overexposed blur of early 2000s digital cameras, paired with realistic level design to heighten both charm and dread.
  • Lifelike Motion Capture Animations: The girl’s facial expressions and movements are based on motion capture and carefully adjusted by hand, creating a striking contrast with the photorealistic environment and boosting immersion.
  • Horror Meets Date: An unusual narrative that merges isolating horror tropes with intimate, unsettling moments spent with a mysterious companion.
  • Estimated Playtime: Approximately 2 to 4 hours, offering a compact, focused journey into atmosphere and mystery.
