Glass description
Glass
In Glass you control a marble with the goal of guiding it to the end of a randomly generated track. With over 18 quintillion possible tracks, every run offers a unique challenge and endless playability.
Modes and difficulty
- Freeride: no challenge whatsoever. Navigate the track at your leisure. Difficulty settings do not apply here.
- Dash: race against time. Track components disappear after you reach them, so speed matters.
- Fragile: move smoothly down the track. If you collide with a component too hard, it breaks and vanishes.
- Dash + Fragile: combines both dash and fragile for a heightened challenge, especially on higher difficulties.
Track selection and generation
You may opt for a randomly selected track or manually choose a track number in the game menu. Track numbers are encoded as 1 to 16 hexadecimal digits, using 0–9 or A–F. Note that track selection is not available in the demo version.
Gameplay mechanics
Each track begins at a start terminal with an altitude of 1,024 meters and trends downhill toward the finish. The altitude is shown in the upper-left corner of the screen to help pacing. When playing in fragile mode, a timer beside the altimeter tracks the elapsed time since start.
Controls and settings
The game menu houses all controls and settings. You can adjust camera sensitivity and music volume, and choose between atmospheric ocean or cloud themes for the environment. A controller is supported for both gameplay and UI interaction, with keyboard required only for manual track number entry. While wireless controllers are expected to work, USB controllers have been tested.
Technical and design notes
Glass uses a bespoke procedural generation algorithm that seeds each track with its track number, ensuring consistent yet varied layouts without AI. The project was developed with open-source software, running on an open-source operating system. There are no microtransactions, DRM, or anti-cheat mechanisms.
