Hearth & Shadow blends hand management with strategic warfare, letting you assemble powerful combinations to grow your settlement, govern distinct Outposts, and unleash ancient artifacts.

Forge an Impregnable Fortress

Shuffling alone is not enough. Your settlement is a living mechanism. To build a forge, a wall, or a tower of magicians, you must seek the perfect card combos in your hand. Plan each move, prune the excess, and chase synergies that turn your village into a formidable war engine. The thrill comes from crafting precise, strategic decks rather than random draws.

Manage Multi-Deck Outposts

Outposts sit at the edge of darkness and are more than mere buildings — they are individual decks with their own rules and timing. Each Outpost carries a mini-deck and unique mechanics, acting as your frontline defenses. Stronger, better-run Outposts reduce the risk of surprise monster attacks on the capital, and mastering several decks at once is the key to triumph as you expand your reach.

Adapt or Die

The world is harsh. Disasters — droughts, epidemics, and magical storms — test your defenses. Yet enduring hardship opens new paths: Permanent Cards, or Artifacts, grant global bonuses that stay with you and can redefine how you build each party. Use these artifacts to forge unique builds, adapting strategies to the threats you face.

The Goal: Total Extermination

In Hearth & Shadow, you don’t hide from monsters—you hunt them. Your objective is not a countdown to a safe day but the complete elimination of the monster population. Build up military power, launch raids, and clear the map sector by sector. But beware: if monsters breach your Outpost line, the capital falls. Strategy, timing, and resource management decide whether the shadow is driven back or overwhelms your realm.
