Black Box - Hacker Day One description

Black Box - Hacker Day One

The clock is counting down. A single misstep could trigger a global war as HWASONG-19 missiles threaten multiple targets. Diplomacy has failed, and the only way to avert catastrophe is through a fully diegetic hacking operation. Black Box - Hacker Day One is a narrative hacking simulation where you inhabit a complete desktop OS. There are no menus, no HUDs, and no floating tutorials—the game is the computer. You type real commands, manage windows, read emails, and navigate a military network—one exploit at a time.

Your mission: Operation LUNAR REDIRECT. Your handler, Mr. Bob, delivers objectives through a secure messenger. Your predecessor, Ghost, began this operation and vanished three days ago, leaving dead drops, network maps, and files you will need to finish the job. The plan is audacious: breach the DPRK STAR-7 network, reprogram every rocket’s trajectory, and redirect them toward The Moon—the Sea of Tranquility—with zero casualties. The rockets launch, the world panics for a moment, and then watches as they sail harmlessly into space.

How it plays — type real commands like ls, cd, cat, ssh, nmap, exploit, decrypt in a fully functional terminal emulator; crack WiFi networks by scanning signals and brute-forcing passwords; exploit servers to gain root access, then SSH in to steal files and credentials; buy hacking tools with Bitcoin from a darknet marketplace; read intercepted military emails and decrypt classified files; cover your tracks by deleting logs, rotating VPNs, and evading traces; and manage a desktop with resizable windows, a taskbar, and a start menu—just like a real operating system.

Every element exists inside the game world: a mission briefing arrives by email, a crypto wallet updates in real time, side quests come from darknet contacts, a crypto miner runs in the background, and the radio plays as the clock ticks. Mr. Bob communicates through a secure messenger, delivering updates in real time. There are no cutscenes or loading screens—only you, the terminal, and 72 hours to save the world.

Five phases of escalation guide the operation:

  • ORIENT — Learn the OS, study Ghost’s files, map the network, locate dead drops.
  • RECON — Go online, scan WiFi, breach embassy networks, ping the DPRK gateway.
  • BREACH — Exploit border routers, SSH into enemy servers, evade traces.
  • ACCESS — Breach military servers, read emails, decrypt intel, fund the operation with stolen Bitcoin.
  • ENDGAME — Crack the military relay, breach launch control, find the override key, redirect rockets.

Core features include a fully simulated desktop with windowed apps, a terminal with 30+ commands and a virtual filesystem, a darknet marketplace for upgradable tools, dynamic email and side-quest delivery, a Bitcoin economy, CRT-style visual feedback, and a save/load system with auto-save on shutdown. No guidance is handed to you—solve it like a real hacker and decide how far you’re willing to go to avert disaster.
