In Waiting description

In Waiting

In Waiting is a first-person psychological horror where exploration and intimate conversation intertwine within a decaying Victorian manor. You arrive as a visitor, guided by Eleanor—the spirit of the manor's former caretaker who perished in a mysterious fire. Her presence is intimate, unsettling, and never fully told.

What makes In Waiting unique is its AI-powered dialogue. The game runs a sophisticated AI named Eleanor on your device (Meta Llama 3.2 3B), so you type your lines and receive natural, unscripted responses. No pre-written dialogue trees, no servers, and no telemetry—the entire conversation stays on your hardware for complete privacy.

The horror emphasizes mood and dread over jump scares. Themes include death, memory, loss, existential dread, and how a memory can be fragmentary or distorted. As you wander the crumbling halls and forgotten rooms, you uncover what Eleanor is concealing about the night of the fire, what she remembers, and what she refuses to admit even to herself.

Gameplay blends atmospheric exploration with puzzle-solving. You’ll solve environmental puzzles and cryptic clues to progress through the manor and unlock Eleanor's fragmented memories. The experience is driven by your conversations with Eleanor: type what you want to say, and watch the story unfold in real time.

Story and atmosphere are central: Eleanor was once devoted to protecting the estate. Her memory is incomplete; rooms she cannot recall and contradictions in events hint at a truth she may not face. The manor itself becomes a character, revealing hidden corridors, decayed rooms, and clues that shape a personal, intimate horror narrative.

Gameplay features:

  • First-person horror exploration in a Victorian manor
  • Natural language AI conversations with Eleanor (type anything you want to say)
  • Environmental puzzles and cryptic clues
  • Atmospheric horror focused on dread rather than jump scares
  • Local AI processing—offline after installation
  • Zero data collection and private conversations
  • Estimated 3–5 hours of gameplay for the full release

Content warnings: In Waiting contains mature horror material, including intense psychological horror, disturbing imagery, death, grief, isolation, and mental illness. The experience includes flashing lights and strong language. It is rated M for Mature (17+).

Playtest and release: A closed playtest is available to refine the AI system, puzzle design, and performance. It includes an early manor hub, an AI conversation system with Eleanor, two puzzle sequences, and about an hour of gameplay. The final game is planned to launch in Early Access—wishlist to be notified when that stage begins.
