Core gameplay

Each match is a tactical contest where players take turns with a strict 60-second time limit per move. Speed matters as much as precision. You’ll balance aiming, shell choice, and terrain manipulation to force mistakes and create windows of opportunity.

Your arsenal centers on three shell types—Normal, Fire, and Poison. Combine their effects to pressure your opponent, control space, and disrupt enemy plans. Normal shells deliver solid, reliable hits; Fire shells ignite areas, push enemies from cover, and threaten new lines of attack; Poison shells apply persistent pressure that complicates cautious play.

Terrain and stealth

Terrain decisions are critical. Hiding in bushes grants a stealth boost, making it harder for opponents to land precise shots. Taking cover in ponds reduces incoming damage, but beware—ponds tainted by Poison Shells become hazardous and can deal damage if you stand on them.

Smart plays mix concealment, cover, and shell choices. For example, you can lure an opponent into exposed positions, then punish their premature attack with a well-timed Fire Shell that reshapes the field in your favor.

Strategic gambits

In dire situations, you can abandon your cannon and sprint to a safer spot. This risky retreat invites pressure from your opponent, who may exploit the newly opened space by lighting the surroundings with Fire Shells. Read the board, anticipate reactions, and choose between steady pressure and bold, decisive moves.

Match flow and victory

The match unfolds in a series of rapid, strategic exchanges. The faster you decide and the smarter your shell mix, the greater your advantage. Victory comes from breaking through the opponent’s defenses, exhausting their options, and guiding the duel to a favorable outcome.

Online play and controls

Cannon Ball is a 1-on-1 experience that requires a second Steam friend to play, along with an active internet connection. The game is controlled with keyboard and mouse, with detailed controls available in the main menu.
