Uncanny Valley: Checkpoint description

Uncanny Valley: Checkpoint

Set in a desolate Soviet border town after a nuclear meltdown, Uncanny Valley: Checkpoint places you at the gate between order and chaos. A viral mutagen has warped bodies and minds, and every action at the gate carries deadly consequences. Your mission is to manage the checkpoint, sift truth from lies, and decide who may enter, who must be quarantined, and who should be put down.

Stamp Their Fate: Pass, Quarantine, or Kill. Each stamp shifts the town’s survival chances—and your own. Let the safe in, seal off the infected—but not those who can still be saved. When there is no good option, choose the least terrible one, knowing that every misstep can bloom into disaster for Saplavi and everyone inside.

INSPECT THE RESIDENTS OF SAPLAVI: Analyze IDs, medical forms, permits, and forged papers under pressure. Cross-check records to confirm identity; read their tells; watch for obvious deformities or subtle behavioral cues that reveal a body has turned. The mutagen’s signs range from the grotesque to the faint, and missing a detail can cost lives.

Survive 30 days and nights in this living hell. This isn’t soft, contained combat; it’s wartime decision-making where every choice echoes outside your booth. Defend yourself from feral mutants outside the gates, and decide which townspeople are worth protecting. Determine who will become a threat tomorrow and act before it’s too late. The city’s fate—and your own—hang in a fragile balance.

UNLEASH YOUR ARSENAL: Manage a meager salary to purchase supplies, gear, and upgrades for your booth. From a tool locker you can acquire essential instruments, bolster defenses, and upgrade weapons and systems. Every purchase comes out of your salary, underscoring the scarcity of resources and forcing tight, calculated choices in a world where nothing is free.

AT LEAST YOU’RE NOT ALONE (CO-OP): Team up to endure the pressure—or sabotage each other as paranoia grows inside the booth. Split the workload: one analyst battles documents while the other sweeps for signs in the body. Share moments of relief with vodka and cigarettes between grim ethical dilemmas. Permadeath? Nah. If a player dies, a replacement is called in to keep the checkpoint standing against the mutagen’s spreading reach.
