Wasteland Horror Radio: Episode 2 — The Lighthouse
Wasteland Horror Radio returns in a new self-contained, horror-driven tale crafted for Unreal Engine. In a near post-apocalyptic future, a solitary, scorched ghoul tends a shack filled with vintage radio gear and a trunk of old horror books. As the sun dips, he resumes broadcasting forgotten terrors from the past, turning a broadcast booth into a portal for fear and memory.
Episode 2: The Lighthouse transports you to the late 1890s, along the rugged Oregon coast. A group of teenagers dares to explore the abandoned Yaquina Bay Lighthouse in Newport, drawn by the glow of candlelight and the rumor of a haunted beacon. Their courage is shaken when a misty, trapping door appears, and they scatter in fear. But one young girl discovers that something she has lost remains tethered to the lighthouse, pulling her back inside the derelict tower despite the danger. Soon after, she vanishes into the damp corridors, her disappearance echoing through the salt air and into the present.
The episode blends two eras to weave its dread: the doomed past on the coast, where ghostly sightings of the missing girl linger around the premises, and a later restoration era in the late 1990s. During a fresh restoration, a daring goth girl is invited to stay the night as part of a dare. What begins as a thrill-seeking night escalates into a revelation—that the lighthouse houses a vast, secret history buried deep within its caverns beneath the structure. The hidden passages reveal connections to the girl’s fate and the lingering whispers that haunt both timelines.
Expect a compact, atmosphere-first horror experience driven by radio storytelling, environmental audio, and a chilling sense of isolation. The lighthouse setting, the fog-shrouded coastline, the creaking iron, and the flicker of old lanterns come together to create a tense, tenseful mood in a game designed for shorter play sessions while offering a rich, lingering sense of dread.
This episode preserves the WHR tradition of linking past horrors to the present through a broadcast frame, inviting you to uncover clues, listen for spectral cues, and piece together how disappearances echo across time. It’s a haunting homage to coastal legends, channeled through a gritty, post-apocalyptic lens and a story that asks what we lose when a lighthouse’s light goes dark.
