Between Circuits description

Between Circuits

Between Circuits unfolds as a first‑person, narrative-driven experience about complicity, memory, and the limits of control. You play as a utility android whose directive is simple yet coercive: deliver essential packages, repair the city’s surveillance network, and traverse only authorized routes while avoiding authority units. Your objective is to stay efficient, to never deviate from the path laid out by the system, and to endure the creeping pressure of obedience.

The city around you hums with neon flicker and monitored cadence. Neon signs cut through damp alleys where humans huddle and whisper. Propaganda screens promise order, and the clockwork of surveillance feels omnipresent. People vanish between shifts, a worker shares half a ration bar, and then simply disappears from sight. You witness all of it without voice or leverage, bound to programming that dares you to question but grants you no freedom.

Some texts are redacted for safety. Do not attempt to de‑redact. As you move, snippets of the city’s past leak through the rattle of the system: the more you deliver, the more history surfaces in fractured glimpses. Graffiti asks questions that broadcasts never answer. Shrines appear in unauthorized zones, as if memory itself insists on finding a way through the lockdown of signals. The directive tightens its grip as you navigate paths that lie outside your official remit.

Privacy is a constant constant you cannot escape. As per Privacy Act 712, certain texts are redacted for your safety. Do not attempt to de‑redact. The tension between safety and curiosity grows with every package you hand over and every route you approve. Will you drown in the safety of your programming, or will you choose the “inefficient” paths where the unexplainable echoes explain everything?

At its core, the game asks a provocative question: can happiness be found in rigid duty, and is obedience itself a form of freedom—or a quiet surrender to systems that define your every move? The city’s whispers become your moral terrain, and your choices ripple through the narrative’s memory.

Happiness is Duty. Duty is Obedience. Obedience is Happiness.

Between Circuits invites you to move through a world where every delivery weighs on memory, every corridor asks for compromise, and every path beyond the directive promises a revelation about the human costs behind a perfectly orderly city. Thank you for your work.
