Watsonville description

Watsonville — VR Narrative Horror

Watsonville is a first‑person psychological horror experience designed for virtual reality. You inhabit the perspective of a child amid the traumatic aftermath of a violent argument between parents inside a cramped 1990s family trailer. After hiding under the bed, you must uncover what happened and find a way to escape the house and its past.

You explore a mobile home and the surrounding spaces, interacting with objects and solving environmental puzzles that reveal pieces of a family’s story. As you move through the house, ordinary rooms begin to tilt and shift, warped by childhood fear. The familiar becomes surreal as reality blends with nightmare, and the past presses in from every shadow.

Environment

The game unfolds in a multigenerational family mobile home. Your grandparents once lived here, and you inherit their space along with their secrets. From a child’s viewpoint, everything feels larger, more confusing, and more intense. Walls and rooms brim with decorations and belongings spanning the 1970s through the 1990s, reflecting a working‑class life across generations. You must crawl, climb, and duck through tight corridors to uncover memories, ghosts, and the hidden presence that lingers in the shadows.

Story

Beyond being left alone in the trailer, you inherit generations of unresolved trauma. Each room reveals a fragment of the family’s story—moments of neglect, fear, and memory that echo through the walls. Over time these memories coalesce into something more than the house itself: a manifestation of pain that has taken shape as an entity, now an obstacle you must escape as you seek the truth.

Gameplay

Watsonville is a single‑player narrative experience crafted for VR. You piece together clues hidden throughout the home by exploring, listening to audio fragments, and examining family artifacts. Environmental puzzles are embedded in rooms and objects, inviting you to examine the era’s cassette tapes, photographs, and nostalgic belongings to reconstruct the story.

Full‑body VR interaction lets you crouch, crawl, climb, and manipulate elements while navigating tight spaces. Voice input via the built‑in microphone triggers events and lets you interact with the world, heightening immersion as you confront the echoes of generations and the eerie presence haunting the trailer.
